We were talking about how incredible Ihop's Stuffed French Toast sounded when I decided to do a little google search on how my calories that delicious little breakfast would really be (and by that I mean how many workouts I would need to do in a day to burn it all off!). And then I saw the big number... 1210. Nope. Not even gonna do it.
But I still had to have it, so we just made it at home. This was sooo good, but it still wasn't exactly super low cal. It's 220 calories per piece, so for the two pieces shown it was 440 calories. Still slightly high, but not going to kill my day with a workout and healthy dinner! And now my craving has been satisfied and I won't end up eating like 17 pieces of french toast later. WIN!
Here's what you'll need:
8 pieces of 100% Whole Wheat Cinnamon Raisin Bread
2 tbsp. Philadelphia 1/3 less fat Cream Cheese
1 banana, cut into small pieces
3 strawberries, cut into small pieces
Sugar Free syrup
Olive or coconut oil cooking spray
1 Egg
1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
1 tsp Cinnamon (I like it extra cinnamon-ey)
Take 4 of your pieces of bread, and spread 1/2 tbsp. of the cream cheese on each piece
Top with bananas and strawberries (I couldn't fit all of them inside so I saved the rest for the topping)
Top with 2nd piece of bread
In a bowl, beat the egg and add vanilla and cinnamon
Carefully dip each "sandwich" into the egg mixutre, turning to get both sides
Spray a pan with oil and heat over medium-high
Lower heat to medium, and add two of the french toast pieces
Cook for about 3-4 minutes per side
Plate, re-spray pan, and add the other two, cooking those 3-4 pieces per side
Top with syrup and any remaining fruit
I also added 1 tbsp of powdered sugar (optional)
Enjoy!
